Millbrook Warriors Lacrosse Team Steps Back In Time and Looks to the Future with their Inaugural Game of Field Lacrosse Monday October 24, 2011

Millbrook, Nova Scotia Monday, October 17, 2011 -- Sometimes a dream just needs to take flight, in the case of Millbrook Warriors it’s a ball that has taken flight.  Under the leadership of Zachary Julian, of Millbrook First Nation, Nova Scotia’s first lacrosse team composed solely of Mi’kmaq Youth is due to play their premier field lacrosse game Monday, October 24, 2011.

The game will take place on the Athletic Field at the Nova Scotia Agriculture College. Opening ceremonies featuring the Millbrook Dancers, Eastern Eagle Drummers and a prayer from one of Millbrook's Elders will take place at 6:30 pm with the face off at 7:00 pm.

Lacrosse has played a significant role in the community and religious life of Canada’s First Nation people for hundreds of years. Its origin, lost in the antiquity of myth, remains a notable contribution of the Native culture to modern Canadian society. Lacrosse remains a rare example where an element of First Nation culture was accepted and embraced by Canadians and the world.

Lacrosse is a game of honour and focuses on the development of mind, body, and spirit. The mind is developed to be active and flexible. The body is developed to be strong and agile. The spirit is developed through a strong moral code that guides player’s actions throughout their lives.

We encourage everyone to come out and support this exciting young team in their first game of the season!
